ABOUT

Fronted by singer-songwriter Drew Harris and guitarist Tim Campbell, The Naked Sun has been a staple of the Philadelphia music scene since forming in 2011. Drawing inspiration from Americana, indie, and classic rock, the band has coined their own sound: “honest-rock.”

Before founding The Naked Sun, Harris cut his teeth in the eclectic Baltimore music scene, fronting folk-leaning projects he once described as “streetgrass.” A return to his native Philadelphia sparked a new musical direction — one with more edge and electricity. He and Campbell met in Campbell’s South Jersey home, traded songs, and quickly realized they shared a creative wavelength. Soon after, The Naked Sun was born.

Early milestones came quickly: the band won the WXPN Beta Hi-Fi Festival, recorded their debut EP Space, Place, and Time, and began building a following through high-energy live shows and thoughtful songwriting.

Today, Harris and Campbell are joined by Dylan Mulcahy (drums) and Tom Tusler (bass, backing vocals), forming a tight-knit lineup rooted in collaboration and sonic exploration. Their music blends the raw honesty of artists like Wilco, My Morning Jacket, The War on Drugs, Drive-by Truckers, and The Jayhawks into something uniquely their own.

“We make music for people who like to really dig in to their music,” says Harris.

The band’s upcoming full-length LP, Mirror in the Hallway, is set for release in Fall 2025, recorded with longtime collaborators Brian McTear & Amy Morrissey at Miner Street Recordings. The first single, Witches, arrives May 30, 2025 — a sweeping, myth-tinged track that kicks off a new chapter for the band.

RELEASES

Modern Life is a 6-song, genre-fluid, not-quite-EP-not-quite-LP that stretches from 90s garage rock to soul, indie, and surreal psych. Written over several years and recorded during a pandemic blur in Philly and NJ studios, this record defies simple categorization.

Sun Rising, 4-song EP that reconnects with the band’s folk-rock roots while branching into gospel, roots-rock, and lo-fi bedroom-gaze. Think Wilco with hints of Youth Lagoon.
